Sweet Start

I’ve decided to get back into the blogging game, and what better way to start then with a review of a new bakery, Bake Street Cafe, that had it’s Grand opening yesterday.  Bake Street Cafe is located in Brookfield in the Galleria West Shopping Mall off of Bluemound Road.  It’s right inside the doors of the main building which is located behind the Kopp’s Frozen custard.  First impression:  The storefront is really cute, modern with a little rustic charm and very welcoming.   Another impressive item: they are a scratch bake house which means they make everything by hand and they are using local ingredients too.  Love it!!

So what drew me in?  I saw a picture posted on Facebook and I immediately thought, oh yeah! I’ve got to try this place.  I am a total sucker for anything cinnamon or caramel.    I was there to try one thing, the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cruffin.  What is a Cruffin you ask??  That is a croissant muffin.  It’s not your ordinary muffin by any means, it invokes the light, flaky, and buttery goodness of a croissant with a hint of cinnamon inside, topped with a lightly sweet drizzle and of course, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.   Best way to eat one, just take a big bite, making sure to get the crunchiest of the cereal to mix with the sweetness of the frosting and the goodness of the croissant.  It’s cerealiously delicious!!!   I am definitely hooked and have become a follower, and I definitely think you should join me.

In addition to the deliciousness I tried, they offer a few other specialty pastries such as Nutella brioche.  They make homemade bread and also offer sandwiches and salads.  I am really looking forward to trying more of what they have to offer.  Check them out!!  For the hockey fans that follow me, they are just east of  Eble Ice Arena.  I can’t think of a better treat than to stop here before a game.  Looking forward to sweet beginnings!!

Parkside 23

I recently met a friend for drinks at Parkside 23.  Parkside 23 is a farm to table restaurant located on Pilgrim Place and North Avenue in Brookfield.  We only went for the appetizers this time, but next time I am definitely trying one of their delectable sounding entrees.  For starters we had the Roasted Beets, now I know not everyone is a beet fan, but these really were delicious.  Served with greens, a Wisconsin chevre cheese (goat cheese), candied walnuts, and tossed with an apple cider vinaigrette.  We could not get enough of this. I will say I am not a huge fan of corn, unless it’s on the cob.  With that said, we tried the Creamed Corn, and oh my goodness, I have definitely changed my mind.  It was a creamy blend of crisp corn, bacon, leeks and the part that put it over the edge for me was the poblano peppers it had in it.  It gave it a great smoky flavor with just a little hint of heat.  Last but definitely not least, we had Matt’s Macaroni, which was a delicious blend of Wisconsin cheeses, topped with a crunchy baked topping of panko bread crumbs and cheddar cheese.  The creaminess of the cheese, mixed with the crunch of the bake topping was irresistible.  There was an option to add bacon, and I know it’s shocking that we didn’t try that but I wanted to try it all on it’s own.  Next time though, there will be bacon. There will definitely be a next time.  The food was great, service was friendly and on Wednesday’s a bottle of wine is half off.  How could you go wrong?
